Love Your Lake Oshawa

The Weird Wonders of Oshawa

Oshawa has been one of the best adventures so far. We expected the worst and at the first cleanup we found barely anything, but we also didn't have any access to the shoreline. The second cleanup, Renaissance Park, had the highest number of weird things: a baby boot, pepper spray, the letter "T", bobble head dog, duck barrette, Pluto Easter sticker, rusty car parts, and the base of a chair. There was still lot to be picked up, especially styrofoam pieces. On Sunday we had all hands on deck at Stone Street Park with eight participants. Lots of paper and foam, but what a beautiful spot! A great way to start the morning. Lakeview Park was horrendous, we could have spent days there. Lots of hazards like broken glass, syringes and dead birds, not to mention that there was an advisory to stay out of the water due to high E. Coli levels. There was a garbage can on the beach but it was full and hadn't been emptied in quite a while. All in all we had some great conversations with some citizens of Oshawa and feel like we made a bit of a positive impact on the lake by picking up 3,848 pieces of litter.
